Writing email invites to respondents for video surveys can be inconvenient. Luckily, most email invites tend to look very much the same.
Here are some templates we’ve used in the past to get high response rates quickly.

1. Email Invite: Simple Version
This template is great for shorter video surveys, such as surveys that take 1 minute to complete.
Email Subject:
John: video survey for $30 Amazon gift card
Email Body:
Hey John,
Thank you for taking 1 minute to complete this video survey.
Please click the link below using a laptop/tablet/phone with a camera, mic, and internet connection. If there are problems recording, simply use a different tablet/phone/laptop.

We will close this survey on April 17th. You will get a $30 Amazon gift card once you complete the survey.

2. Email Invite: Detailed Version
This template is great for longer video surveys, such as surveys with 5+ questions.
Email Subject:
John: video survey for $30 Amazon gift card
Email Body:
Hey John,
Thank you for taking 15 minutes to complete this survey.
How it works:
1. find a quiet place, with good lighting and internet connection
2. use a laptop, tablet, or smartphone to click the survey link below
3. the survey will ask you to record videos of yourself, answering short questions
4. each of your answers should be about 1 minute long
5. the survey will show you a playback of your video. Check the sound is ok
6. if you have problems recording, simply click the survey link using a different laptop/tablet/phone

We will close this survey on April 17th. If you really don’t want to show your face, you can point the camera at a random object, and record only voice answers.

3. SMS Invite
Note that SMS, as a communication format, has some limitations that are not obvious.
First, SMS does not allow labelling links. So in SMS invites, the survey link will not display as "click here"--it will always be displayed as the full web address (e.g. https://www.survey.com).
Second, each SMS message has a 160-character limit. It's OK for your SMS invite to be longer--the invite will be sent as multiple SMS messages, sent one after the other. The respondents will still be able to read the SMS invite just fine.
